Harding described the project as "incredible" in her opening remarks and praised her predecessors for setting it in motion.Īs the main focal point of the trail, the bridge was purchased by the county in 2018 from the Clinton County Solid Waste Authority. "Don't celebrate the idea," she said, "Celebrate when you make the idea a reality." Louwerse went on to praise how so many individuals came together to help this project come to fruition. She joked that while not everyone is pleased with PennDOT, this project shows that PennDOT is "not just about highways" and that the trail will bring "great economic benefit and quality of life" to the area. "These kinds of projects are never accomplished by just one person," said Jennie Louwerse, PennDOT's deputy secretary for multi-modal transportation. Many speakers touched on the uniqueness of an accomplishment such as this. The trail was aptly named after de Silva as a tribute to all of the hard work and dedication she put into planning efforts for the overall BEVT.ĭe Silva said she was "overwhelmed" by all of the praise as she soon retires. Temporarily dubbed "Falcon Bridge," Katie's Crossing is heralded as the first hiking and biking trail that spans across the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.
